Camp Fire Day Camp Location Update:

Earlier this year, Seattle Parks informed us of scheduled maintenance at Carkeek Park that would have made it unavailable for the start of the summer. In response, we secured Woodland Park to ensure uninterrupted programming for families.

We’re excited to share an update for our CDC families: Camp Fire Day Camp will return to Carkeek Park for Weeks 1–3 this summer!

Q: Can I switch my camper’s registration to a Carkeek week?

A: Yes — to transfer any of your Community Day Camp reservations to a different week, please contact the Office Manager before June.

Families interested in Weeks 1–3 at Carkeek Park are encouraged to reach out as soon as possible, as availability may be limited.

Q: Can my camper attend both locations?

A: Absolutely and we encourage it. Spending a week at each location will give the full North Seattle Day Camp experience and allow your camper to explore and get to know the natural environment of both parks.

Q: Will the cost of camp change because of the location?

A: No — tuition remains the same regardless of location. Scholarships and financial assistance are still available.

Q: Will drop-off and pick-up times stay the same?

A: Yes — camp hours and extended care options remain the same at both locations. Families will receive detailed site-specific logistics prior to their registered camp week.

Q: Will the program or daily structure be different?

A: No — campers can expect the same daily rhythm, activities, and program quality at both locations. While each park offers unique natural features, our core Day Camp experience remains consistent: outdoor exploration, creative activities, group games, and community-building.

Q: Will there be an open house or site tour before camp starts?

A: We are exploring options for informal site visits and/or virtual orientations prior to the start of camp. More information will be shared with registered families.

Q: Will the same staff be returning?

A: Yes! Our experienced Day Camp staff team will be working across both locations, and many familiar faces will be returning this summer. Staff may rotate between sites, but campers can expect the same level of care, energy, and leadership.

Q: How is Camp Fire preparing staff for the different locations?

A: All staff receive comprehensive pre-season training, including site-specific planning for both parks. Teams are trained in:

  • Safety and emergency procedures
  • Outdoor programming across varied environments
  • Inclusive and trauma-informed practices

We also conduct on-site orientation at both parks so staff are confident and prepared.

Q: How will this support equity and inclusion for BIPOC campers and families?

A: Expanding to multiple park locations helps us increase access to outdoor programming across Seattle. We are continuing to prioritize:

  • partnerships with community organizations
  • scholarship opportunities
  • culturally responsive programming and staff training

Both locations are designed to support safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces for all campers.
