As we wrap up the celebration of Camp Sealth’s centennial, it is critical that we address the role that cultural appropriation of native/indigenous traditions has played throughout camp’s history. Many former and current traditions, images, and names used at camp emulate practices of indigenous people. While they may have developed from a place of honor and respect, we must acknowledge the real harm these practices cause.
Join us for an open, facilitated conversation about the impact of cultural appropriation, the role it plays at Camp Sealth, and where we go from here.
