Please Note: Our 8.5 Intermediate Double Session requires an application. You can register for the program at any time, and only accepted participants will qualify into the session. Any funds paid will apply towards your leadership program, should you be accepted. If not accepted, your funds can be transferred to another session or refunded back to you (besides the $100 non-refundable deposit).
For riders who have completed at least two weeks of horse camp or have taken riding lessons. Campers must be able to independently control a horse at a walk. They’ll learn new skills in the arena and expand their knowledge of horses through ground lessons.
When registering for a horse camp session, campers are signing up for the program as a whole—not for a specific riding level. On the first day of camp, our riding staff will assess each camper’s ability through a short riding evaluation to determine their appropriate level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). Placement decisions are made with safety as the top priority and to ensure the best learning experience for every rider. This may mean campers are placed in a group they’ve been in before, or one that is higher or lower than expected.
Sessions 2, 4, 5 and 6 are offered to girls & boys. Session 1, 7, 8 and 8.5 are girls only. Sessions 3 is open to all genders.
What is Double Session?
Each summer, we offer an extended session to our Advanced & Intermediate riders. This session, denoted with a ‘.5’, is 12 days at camp including staying over the weekend. This extended time allows campers to participate in all of the Classic Camp activities, as well as getting more time spent on horse. The double session also includes a workshop on leadership, an opportunity to plan horsey-activity night for younger campers, a volunteer opportunity with a local vashon organization, and depending on skill level – more advanced riding techniques.
2027 Update: The double session is 8.5. Open to Intermediate & Advanced. This extended session DOES NOT have return transportation – all participants will need to be checked-out on Vashon Island at Camp Sealth on the last day of program. Please email questions to dominiqueb@campfireseattle.org.
How to Apply
The Intermediate Riding 8.5 double session fosters independence and leadership in teens. All parts of the application must be completed by the teen applicant, not by their parents/guardians. If we determine that an application has been completed by a parent, the applicant will not be accepted. We also highly recommend that the teen applicant, rather than the parent/guardian, communicate with camp staff during their application process.
