Camp Sealth maintains high staff to camper ratios, and hires staff who are compassionate and have excellent judgment. Staff undergo extensive background checks and training before working with kids.
Who Are the Camp Sealth Staff?
Camp Sealth employs about 100 paid staff and 50 part time volunteers, in addition to 10 year-round staff. Most of the camp staff are in college, between the ages of 18 and 23. About half are originally from the Puget Sound, many of whom attended Sealth as a camper; we also employ staff from across the United States and around the world.
Screening & Training
The camp staff are carefully selected after undergoing an interview, reference checks, background and sex offender checks. We hire staff for their values, good judgment and passion for working with youth. The entire staff go through 10 days of training, and receive additional training and performance evaluations throughout the summer.
Staff Ratios & Supervision
Sealth maintains an overall staff to camper ratio of 1:3 or better, and each cabin group has 1 counselor per 6 to 9 kids. Campers are never left unsupervised – staff are always present and involved to prevent bullying and unsafe behavior, and also to help support in positive habits and help facilitate new experiences and friendships.
