CITing
The CIT program is a week long camp for incoming 7th and 8th graders who are interested in developing leadership skills and working with kids. Through interactive workshops, CITs will learn about their leadership style and what it means to collaborate in team settings. They then get the chance to put their skills into action by planning camp activities, shadowing activity specialists, and counselors.
CITs at Seattle Day Camps is not an application process, and does not require previous experience. We strongly reccomend coming only a week or two. The curriculum is based on CITs coming one week. While we appreciate the help, CIT’s are not considered volunteers and do no not need to attend any additional trainings. They can earn service hours upon request.
What to Expect
The CIT program combines many different elements to give teens a well-rounded experience and the opportunity to develop skills in multiple areas. They will spend the morning shadowing staff and volunteers then attend trainings in the afternoon. Trainings include: Interacting with parents, SMART Goal Settings, Being a Childs Superhero and others to become a positive member around camp. CITs will also get trained in “kid skills” such as behavior management and age group characteristics.
Goals of the CIT program
● Youth will grow in confidence and gain leadership skills.
● Youth will learn and observe behavior management.
● Youth will gain skills for working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
● Youth will develop an understanding of how to work effectively with children.
