Campers with Special Needs

Camp Fire Day Camps are welcome to everyone! We believe that all children should have the opportunity to attend camp, to be free to be their authentic selves and to be accepted for who they are.

Behavior Expectations & Essential Functions

Our Day Camps ensure an environment of inclusiveness for kids with a wide variety of abilities and support needs. Our staff work with parents and campers to support them before and during camp.

In order to participate in a Day Camp program, a child must:

  • Be able to meet their  own personal care needs with (if needed) some assistance or reminders
  • Be able to control their own actions most of the time, and follow instructions from adults in order to safely and cooperatively interact with peers.

We are not staffed to support campers who exhibit physically and/or verbally aggressive behavior, or who need significant help with toileting, bathing, or dressing.

Accommodating Special Diets & Allergies

Campers bring their own lunch and snacks daily. We encourage you to have an icepack in your campers’ lunch, as no refrigeration is available. Camp Fire Day Camps are peanut-free – we do not serve or allow any peanut butter or any peanut products.

All Day Campers will have an opportunity to learn new Outdoor Cooking skills! Your child’s special diet or allergy will be accommodated with a substitute that is as close as possible to what the group is cooking.

If you would like to have a larger discussion in order to set your camper up for success, please contact info@campfireseattle.org
