Below, Xaimen (back row, 2nd from left) is just one of hundreds of youth who attend summer camp thanks to the generous support of our donors.
It was the chance to make new friends that drew Xaimen Lopez to Camp Fire when he was still in elementary school. Now a sophomore in high school, it’s the opportunity to take on new responsibilities as a counselor-in-training (CIT) that keeps him coming back.
“The best thing about being a CIT is that you have more authority and freedom. You have the chance to become a leader,” says Xaimen, who’s considering a future career in either architecture or medicine.
The Federal Way teen’s family is one of more than 560 Camp Fire families who were able to benefit from our camps and programs in the past year thanks to donor-funded financial aid. Your gifts to Camp Fire make leadership experiences like Xaimen’s possible.
“One out of every three families qualify for financial aid,” explains Executive Director Rick Taylor. “We are grateful to the donors who enable us to help many of them, but unfortunately, we are still forced to turn down dozens more requests each year.”
