A new addition to our board, Chuck grew up hearing of his mom’s incredible summers at Camp Sealth. He met his wife, Melisa, working with us and their son Preston now comes to our summer camp.
By Charles Lasco:
When I was young, my dad’s airline job moved us around a lot. I started to dread having to saying goodbye to yet another group of friends I’d made.
Everything changed at Camp Sealth. It was the first place that gave me a true sense of community and confidence.
From week to week, kids would come and go. Others stayed the whole summer like I did. Exploring the beaches, paddling canoes, roasting marshmallows, I made new friends that endure to this day.
Later as a counselor-in-training, then as a camp counselor for several summers, I built on those experiences and learned how to push myself when things got tough. I learned to lead with patience and persistence and to listen with compassion and empathy — skills I draw on every day in my work as a manager at Microsoft, and as a parent.
It’s why I give to Camp Fire.
I want all children to have the opportunity to have access to life-changing experiences like I did, especially those in low-income families.
