Fall is just around the corner which means that our Group Program groups and members are getting ready for the school year ahead! Read below about on of our most recent WoHeLo Award recipients, earned through years of participation in our School Year Programs. If you missed our first two posts, be sure to read more about the incredible amount of work that goes into earning the WoHeLo Award.
A Group Program participant since 2002, Samantha Honmyo’s advocacies saw her taking on many leadership roles. Samantha planned and lead a Holiday Celebration in her community. She served as a co-leader of a Camp Fire Group for two years which included planning and budgeting for activities, teaching younger children the traditions of Camp Fire and recruiting new members. Finally, she chaired the annual Dad & Kid Weekend at Camp Sealth – quite the undertaking – where she was in charge of planning the activities for the weekend, organizing volunteers, and leading the event. She plans to attend Bellevue College in the fall to study accounting and business.
Samantha writes, “Camp Fire has been a way for me to make new friends and connections and being a part of their program has helped me grow as a person. Having the opportunity to practice my social and leadership skills in a safe environment has really helped my confidence grow.
I would like to thank my parents and Lisa for sticking though the many years of Camp Fire with me, helping to mold and shape me into the person I am today. I would also like to thank Melissa and Meaghan for coaching me through how to run Dad & Kid Weekend! I really appreciate all your help!
Camp Fire has taught me about what it is to give community service and how to be conscious about how one’s actions can have a large impact on oneself, others, and the environment. Over the last four years I have learned a lot about leadership, choosing good life decisions, and insight on what my future holds. Thank you Camp Fire for giving me this amazing opportunity!”
Congratulations Samantha, we are so proud of all you have accomplished and wish you well on your future endeavors! WoHeLo!
Help all of our Camp Fire kids reach their full potential!
