We are closing out our Spring Season of Outdoor Education and it was a great one! We’ve had an amazing OE team this season and some of them shared their favorite stories from the season!
What’s Outdoor Ed?
The Outdoor Education program brings school groups to Camp Sealth for experience-based environmental learning, and hands on curriculum. These field trips are overnight at camp and provide a mixture of direct curriculum, classic camp fun, and learning through exploration of the rich natural environment that Camp Sealth offers.

Appaloosa:
Hi, I’m Appaloosa! I had a lovely group of kiddoes. They were so fun and their laughter made my entire week. I had one girl who had never been to an overnight camp. She was super nervous, yet when encouraged she was so willing to step out of her comfort zone and try new things. She struggled at archery but she did not quit. She was so persistent and determined. I still remember the way her face lit up when she hit the target. She was extremely into our different ecology lessons, especially our marine and soil ecology. She loved finding new creatures and exploring places she’s never been before. I was so grateful to Camp Sealth to give me the ability to help her feed her curiosity and her communication skills.
Pickle:
Hi, I’m Pickle!! As an Outdoor Educator I have had multiple moments that made me realize what a joy it is to teach kids in the outdoors. At camp we only meet with kids for 2-3 days so it can be challenging to connect with everyone. However there was one group of students that had made me feel that I had taught them. We were talking about Forest Ecology and during our review they had correctly defined producers, consumers and decomposers, while also giving examples of each. Then when we continued onto Soil Ecology, without hesitation defined decomposers AGAIN!! It made me burst into a smile that I was able to teach a group of students so quickly. In this same group I had a student who was more reserved and scared with doing certain activities. Regardless of that they still went out of their comfort zone and did the activities that they were initially scared of. This student trusted me to make sure they would have more fun. This is what working here means to me :)
