Creating Happy Campers for 22 Years!
Shannon Meade, also known by her camp name of Cheer Bear, was recently presented with Camp Fire’s Sebago Award for her incredible commitment to Camp Fire youth! Shannon has been volunteering at Camp Fire for more than 22 years and most recently dedicated her time and talents as Carkeek Park’s Site Director.
Shannon’s passion all started when she was a camper herself and she credits her Camp Fire Group Leader as a huge influence in encouraging her to get involved when she was just an 8th grader. Since then she hasn’t missed a single year of Day Camp! Last week, staff and campers at Carkeek Park Day Camp marked the end of Shannon’s time volunteering as Site Director and honored her at the Council Fire.
In addition to bringing smiles to campers’ faces each summer, Shannon has also been a huge influence on the other volunteers, many of who are there because of her. Shannon describes them as a great big camp family and shares that she loves that they are all there for a common reason – to make sure campers have fun, make new friends and try new things – all in a caring and supportive space.
Shannon’s sister who nominated her for the award and who also volunteers her time as Carkeek’s nurse credits Shannon with always going above and beyond for camp and doing whatever it takes to make it an incredible experience for the kids year after year.
Congratulations Shannon!
