Sailing With the Quartermaster Yacht Club
We are very excited to launch a new partnership this summer with Vashon Island’s Bruce Haulman Junior Sailing Program, a collaborative effort of Quartermaster Yacht Club and the Vashon Park District during Kiwanis Camp Sessions 1, 4 and 7! Our campers at Camp Sealth will learn about different parts of a sailboat, the theory of sailing and how to recover a capsized boat. On the 5th and final full day of the session, Kiwanis campers will head to the Quartermaster Yacht Club on Vashon Island where they will spend the afternoon on the water, receiving instruction on how to sail the sailing dinghies by their trained instructors!
Providing Experiences to Last a Lifetime
The Bruce Haulman Junior Sailing Program is an established summer activity for youth and adults. Using their own fleet of small sailing dinghies, they teach water safety, boat handling, crewing, rigging, finding the wind, and more! The lessons are instructed by teens and young adults who are certified instructors through US Sailing and have a CPR certification. Over the past 23 years, over 2,000 youth have learned how to sail and over 50 young adults have become certified sailing instructors. The safe sailing conditions in the Quartermaster Harbor, the well maintained boats and the endless summer winds create skills and experiences that will last a lifetime!

Thank you Quartermaster Yacht Club for your partnership!
