Two Very Special Volunteers for Special Family Camp!
Meet JoAnn & Andy, Camp Fire volunteers who have been lending their time and talents for nearly 15 years at Special Family Camp held every Memorial Day Weekend at Camp Sealth.
Always ready to lend a hand
JoAnn & Andy spend time getting to know each family, listening to their stories, and making sure that everyone has a good experience at camp. They do anything that is needed throughout the weekend and do it all with a kind smile. Taking photos of families in action at camp to assisting campers ride adaptive bicycles to helping with craft projects to running the registration desk are just a few of the tasks they take on. They also both lead special activities and also help with the planning of the weekend which is quite an undertaking as this camp usually attracts around 100 people!
Camp Fire – A Family Affair
Their daughter Christa was a long-time participant in our Group Program who had earned her WoHeLo Award and volunteered at Special Family Camp as part of her advocacy. She invited JoAnn and Andy to join her and luckily for Camp Fire they have come back year after year since!
“As long-time volunteers, JoAnn & Andy understand the flow of the weekend and are ready to help even before being asked. They are always willing to spend time with the families – to listen to their concerns and find solutions to any problems that come up. Over the years, their feedback has led to many new and creative ways to improve the weekend.”
