This will be Meredith’s first year volunteering as a Site Director! She has been volunteering at Day Camps since 2014 and she is so excited to take on this new role! Meredith will be the Site Director for Carkeek Week 1 and Week 2  this summer.

Favorite Parts About Day Camp?

My favorite part about Day Camp is watching youth have fun while making memories throughout the week. It’s very rewarding to see them SO excited to share everything they’ve done and learned at the end of the day when their parents come to pick them up! The smiles and giggles are priceless. Seeing campers grow from year to year and become volunteer staff when they’re teens brings me so much joy. Helping to create growth and development in youth is a passion of mine.

Why Do You Volunteer? Are You Involved in Camp Fire in Other Ways?

I volunteer because I believe in the mission statement of Camp Fire and our commitment to inclusion. I’ve been apart of Camp Fire since 1998, which marks my first summer at camp! I’ve worked and volunteered for Camp Fire since 2005. During the past two summers I have worked as a Teen Leadership Coordinator for Day Camp and I’m currently a Member Services and Community Programs Associate in the council office.

How Have You Seen Day Camp Impact a Child?

Working with our CIT’s (Counselors in Training) last summer was such an enriching experience to me. It was a gift to see teens grow in confidence from the beginning of the week to the end, and to see how they used what they learned in training to help them succeed while working with campers. Everyday I saw them making memories with those campers and developing skills they will use their whole lives.

Anything that has to do with the beach/water, as well as Arts and Crafts.

Writing to Camp Spirits! This summer I’ll be writing to Polly and Patrick, two leprechauns that live in the woods at Carkeek Park!

Camp is full of opportunities for fun, growth, exploration, and making new friends. Whether it’s your first year or your 20th, camp is always enriching. It is what I look forward to most every year.”
