In celebration of Volunteer Appreciation Week April 12th – 18th, we are featuring some of our amazing Camp Fire volunteers! Our programs rely heavily on the time and talents of our volunteers. In the last year alone 626 adults and 741 youth donated more than 93,263 hours to Camp Fire!
We are pleased to introduce Featured Volunteer Dr. Lorin Boynton!
How long have you been volunteering/involved with Camp Fire? In what capacity?
I have been volunteering at Camp Sealth’s Health Clinic Medamin as one of the Camp Doctors for the past 11 summers. In addition to caring for the campers’ health and wellness needs, I have also helped with organizing the schedule for all the health care staff, have helped with staff recruitment and have trained many new health care staff. I have also created several new health policies.
Why do you volunteer for Camp Fire?
I love volunteering at Camp Sealth as it gives me a chance to interact with a variety kids at camp in different ways! I have gotten to know many of the kids and it’s truly a joy to see them return year after year! It’s a true privilege to see them grow up and witness just what an important role Camp Sealth has played during their summers and in their lives overall.
Anything else you would like to share about Camp Fire?
I applaud Camp Fire for being a fully inclusive organization. I love that Camp Sealth provides the residential camp experience to such a variety of kids with all sorts of backgrounds and needs. The fact that all of their programs are fully inclusive is a real gift to many families.
“Dr. Boynton has played such a critical role in supporting our health clinic and helping it run smoothly each summer! She is always willing to go above and beyond and assist in anyway she can. We are extremely grateful for her knowledge and expertise in helping us craft new policies, train staff and above all, care for our campers!”
