Special Family Camp was a Hit!
In 1994, Special Family Camp began when a group of teens saw a need for children with special needs to experience the excitement and adventure of summer camp. They felt that everyone deserved to take part in fun activities such as canoeing, archery, hikes, s’mores making and horse back riding.
Special Family Camp was designed so they could do just that in a supportive and inclusive environment that was designed just for them.
With a kid who heavily masks his special needs, it’s wonderful that no matter how he shows up, it’s safe. Seeing some of the same faces each year is also lovely [and] chatting with the other parents is super meaningful! – Parent Attendee
This year’s sold-out event attracted more than 100 people and continued that tradition, bringing families together for a weekend full of fun. Attendees spent time together building Alka seltzer rockets, exploring our In the Stars theme, enjoying the talent show, and sharing so many meaningful moments as a community.
One of the things that makes this camp unique is its flexibility. Families are free to shape their own experience—whether that means participating in a full schedule or simply taking time to connect. Throughout the weekend, campers had the opportunity to try archery, boating, arts and crafts, hikes, and adaptive biking, with equipment provided by Outdoors for All.
